Fourth Annual Veterans Day 5k Race/Walk Results
West Haven – Thank you to all who supported the Fourth Annual Veterans Day 5k Race/Walk on Nov. 11. This year we had 370 registered runners and walkers ranging from ages 5-86. The overall winner was Matthew Woop, 18, with a time of 16:46. The first VA Connecticut employee to cross the finish line was Dr. Chris Ruser, 40, with a time of 18:21 (third overall). John Matthews, 54, was the first veteran to cross the line in 19:20 finishing in ninth place overall. Dorothy Cohen, 40, a VA employee, finished as the top female competitor with a time of 21:24 for 28th place overall.
We are grateful for the support of the Reverend James McCarten, Assembly 119, The Knights of Columbus, our race co-sponsors; Start Line Services and Marty Schaivone for timing services; Hi-Tek Racing for online support; and Donna Cramond, race chair along with the Veterans Day 5k Race/Walk Committee and volunteers who make this event possible.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut and the VA Connecticut Indigent Veteran Fund. The Friends of Fisher House are currently fundraising to build a Fisher House at the West Haven campus. The house will provide free accommodations to patient families free of charge while the veteran is receiving inpatient care at the West Haven campus. The Indigent Veteran Fund provides health and comfort items for hospitalized homeless and low-income patients.
We look forward to seeing you on the course in 2012!
