Join us May 16 for the VA2K Walk & Roll

More than 130 VA's nationwide will host a walk

Participants are asked to consider donating an item to help a formerly homeless veteran make his/her new apartment more comfortable.

Thursday, May 10, 2012

The VA2K Walk & Roll takes place rain or shine from noon to 1pm at the West Haven campus, 950 Campbell Avenue. Register the day of the event in the staff dining room (located on the first floor between Buildings 1 and 2) from 10am to noon.

This event is sponsored to increase awareness of healthy physical activity among our veterans and employees and to assist in outreach efforts for homeless veterans.  There are more than 150 veterans in the Hartford, New Haven and Waterbury areas moving into apartments in the next four months. These veterans receive assistance in obtaining furniture but still need additional items to make the apartments more like a home.

Race participants are asked to consider donating an item from the list below to help these veterans make their new homes more comfortable:

  1. Kitchen: towels, sponges, soap, detergent, wipes, cleaning pads, toaster, and coffee maker. Also, basic salt and pepper shakers, can openers, small knife set, small silverware set, glass ware, small cooking pans, plates, bowls.
  2. Bathroom: Towels, shower curtains, soap dispenser, toilet bowl brush, cleaning products, bath mat, facial tissue, toilet paper, first aid kit. Hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner, tooth brush, disposable razors, body wash and deodorant.
  3. Bedroom: Bed sheet sets, pillows, blankets, comforter,  laundry basket, laundry soap, small lamps, clock radio, used televisions, wooden hangers, throw rugs, small end table and small curtain sets.
  4. Gift cards from area businesses including Dunkin Donuts, Target, Walmart, and grocery stores.
