Fisher House Connecticut

Fisher House Connecticut

The Connecticut Fisher House is a beautiful “home away from home” that provides high quality, temporary lodging to families and caregivers of Active Duty Service Members and Veterans who are undergoing in-patient treatment or extended, episodic outpatient treatment through the VA either at our West Haven VA campus or out in the community at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH). The Fisher House enables family members to be close to their loved one during hospitalization by providing comfortable, cost free lodging, only a short walk away from the VA medical center or a shuttle ride to YNHH.

The Connecticut Fisher House has 16 private suites, a shared fully equipped gourmet kitchen, a spacious dining room, an inviting family room, modern laundry room, and outdoor patio. Each of the suites come furnished with telephones, TV’s and DVD players. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What criteria must be met to stay at the Fisher House?

Fisher House guests must be family members, caregivers, or loved ones of a hospitalized Veteran or Servicemember who lives 50 or more miles or at least two hours from the Medical Center. Guests must also be medically stable, self-sufficient and able to independently care for themselves and/or their family members, be actively involved in the hospitalized Veteran’s or Servicemember’s treatment plan, and need a home address meeting the mileage criteria (cannot be homeless).

Are dining facilities available?

The Fisher House has a spacious dining room and a well-equipped kitchen for guests to use. Some food items may be provided through community donations, but guests should be prepared to purchase their own groceries. Individualized refrigerator and dry storage space is provided.

How does one ask to stay at the Fisher House?

The Veteran or Servicemember’s Social Worker will conduct an initial screening of those requesting lodging accommodations to ensure they meet all the Fisher House eligibility criteria. If all the criteria is met, Social Work will complete an electronic consult for review by Fisher House Management. Guests cannot be accepted without this consult and guests should not contact the Fisher House directly for lodging consideration.

What is the availability?

Rooms are assigned on a first come, first served basis and reservations are not accepted. Submission of a consult by a Social Worker does not guarantee a room. The potential guest will be contacted the day before the intended arrival date to confirm a room based on availability.
