VA Connecticut Healthcare System
2014 National Cancer Survivors Day
VA Connecticut Healthcare System will host its annual Cancer Survivors Day program on Friday, June 13 from 9:30am to 2pm. This year’s theme is “A Red Carpet Event, Dress to the Nines” celebrating life after a cancer diagnosis. Bernie Siegel, MD, author and motivational speaker will join us and share his experiences working with and treating cancer patients.
National Cancer Survivors Day® is an annual celebration hosted in hundreds of communities in the U.S. and abroad. Events demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive.
The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a “survivor” as anyone living with a history of cancer – from diagnosis through the remainder of life. In addition to celebrating life after a cancer diagnosis, we will honor our patients for their service to our country.
In 1978, Dr. Siegel and his wife Bonnie launched ECaP (Exceptional Cancer Patients) which takes a therapeutic approach that helps patients interpret their drawings, dreams and images to express their feelings about the healing process. Dr. Siegel is the author of 12 books. His latest book, A Book of Miracles – Inspiring True Stories of Healing, Gratitude and Love was published in September 2011.
This event is open to the public. Veterans who are cancer survivors are especially encouraged to take part in this program. Program will be in the Donaldson Education Center located in Building 2 (main entrance, revolving door) on the second floor. Please RSVP to 203-932-5711 ext. 2802 or 5189.
